In the United States, about 40% of people suffer from high cholesterol, requiring an established routine of medication, exercise, and a healthy diet in order to manage their health. Unfortunately, travel can prove to be a major disruption to this routine, potentially posing problems. But does this mean that people with high cholesterol shouldn’t travel? Of course not! If you follow these tips, you should be able to manage your cholesterol even while abroad.

Managing Medications

Naturally, you’ll have to bring your medications along with you when you travel. Make sure to pack them in your carry-on in a spot that is easy to access. Also take a copy of your prescription details, doctors’ phone numbers, and pharmacy information in case you need to replace something during the trip. Packing extra meds is a good idea to cover yourself in case your trip is extended or something gets lost. Finally, it’s recommended to keep track of changes in time zones so that you can remain on your usual medication schedule.

Healthy Diet

Bring healthy snacks and plenty of water along with you during travel. Try to go to restaurants with nutrition information on the menu so you can make informed choices, and ask for smaller portions or healthier substitutions if you’d like. Ideally, stay in a place with kitchen facilities so you can prepare your own healthy meals and snacks.
