]]>King Hassan II instructed the French architect Michel Pinseau to design this mosque, and Moroccan artisans from all over the kingdom helped built it. It opened its doors in 1993, becoming the largest functioning mosque in Africa and the 7th largest in the world.
The most impressive part of this imposing building is its minaret, which towers above the Atlantic Ocean at 690 feet. It’s currently the second tallest minaret in the world, and it owes its extraordinary elegance to distinctive chrome and green tiles.
