Although traveling can be one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives, it also unfortunately takes a toll on the environment. We don’t want you to miss out on travel, but we are hoping these tips help reduce the carbon footprint of your future trips.

Avoid Flying When Possible

Sometimes flying is unavoidable, but if you are in an area where there are other transportation options, use those. Planes are the largest contributor to carbon emissions in the tourism industry, so if you can take a bus or a train to your destination, that would make a huge difference!

Conserve Energy in Accommodations

You already know it’s important to lower the thermostat and turn off lights when you leave a room, but sometimes it’s easy to forget these simple things when you stay in a new place. Make sure to keep up with all of your usual sustainability habits even if you are in an Airbnb or hotel!

Eat Local Foods

This one is a great (and fun) way to reduce your carbon footprint because it’s probably something you already plan on doing! Eating local usually means the food is locally sourced and therefore didn’t cause huge emissions in transport. This supports local business AND a happy environment. BONUS: Eating local food is a great way to learn about a new place!
