]]> Cape Verde is an island country located a few hundred kilometers off the coast of northwest Africa. This small country has begun to gain more and more fame as a tourism destination over the past several years as people have begun to discover all it has to offer. Boa Vista island, located in the northeastern part of the country, is my top pick as a vacation destination. Here are some reasons why!

Beaches

Boa Vista is a top vacation destination largely due to its pristine, sandy, beautiful beaches. Chaves and Atalanta are two great options, but the real star of the show is Santa Monica Beach, a virgin stretch of over 20 kilometers of sand on the tranquil southern side of the island.

Sand Dunes

The island also features a couple of outstanding sand dunes that are stunning and awe-inspiring. The Chaves sand dunes are located on the water and feature small vegetation, while the Viana sand dunes in the interior of the island are extensive and known for their acacia bushes.

Sal Rei

The capital and largest town on the island is Sal Rei, where you’ll be able to find shops, restaurants, and a pleasant environment near Cabral Beach. Check out the abandoned Fatima Chapel or the Shipwrecks Museums for a couple of interesting sights to see.
