As an island nation, the UK boasts some incredible beaches, and those living in the southwest of the country would claim that the very best of the coastline is to be found in the counties of Devon and Cornwall. From rugged coves to vast sandy stretches, Devon offers some stunning beaches that can be enjoyed year-round. The North coast is favored for surfing, while the South coast offers plenty of swimming spots, not to mention some of the finest sections of the South West Coast Path. If you’re vacationing in the county of Devon, check out these three beaches which can’t be missed!

Woolacombe Bay, North Devon, England

Around half an hour’s drive from the town of Barnstaple is the stunning Woolacombe Bay. Famed for its excellent surfing conditions, in the high summer season you will find this beach packed with surfers, swimmers, paddlers, and sunbathers alike. In the winter season, a walk along the beach is sure to be bracing but worth it. There are several car parks in the town of Woolacombe, as well as plenty of cafes and restaurants so you can refuel after your sea dip.

Dawlish Warren, South Devon, England

This beach combines beautiful sand dunes with gentle surf and a nearby wildlife sanctuary, for a great day out for the whole family. You can drive or take the train to Dawlish from Devon’s capital, Exeter. You will find plenty of sandy beaches, dunes to explore, and the estuary bird sanctuary tucked behind the dunes. As in Woolacombe, there are cafes and restaurants in Dawlish which will serve up a Devon cream tea (scones with cream and jam), or that British classic, fish and chips.

Ayrmer Cove, South Devon, England

This beach is a little off the beaten track, and you will need to walk a small section of the South West Coast Path to reach it. The payoff, however, is that even in the high summer season this beach is emptier than many stretches of sand nearby. Do be aware that if you’re planning on swimming, there is no lifeguard nearby, so follow sensible precautions and don’t get in the water unless you feel confident in your swimming ability and knowledge. If you’re not swimming, there are still plenty of beach activities to do, including some rock pooling and sand castle building.

Known for its golden beaches, crystal clear waters, and many islands, it’s no wonder why Greece is a popular tourist destination for the warm summer months. Still, even as you get excited about your beach vacation, it’s important to understand that Greece has implemented a new beach law that you’ll need to be aware of to avoid legal troubles. Here is all you need to know about this new beach law before you embark on your Greek beach vacation.

What Happened

With Greece’s tourism consistently on the rise, locals became increasingly frustrated by the huge crowds that occupied the beaches, both by people and loungers. As a result, they participated in protests to pressure the government into action. As a result, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced Greece’s new “beach bill”, aimed at making beaches more orderly and ensuring that there is sufficient space for both locals and tourists alike.

What You Need to Know

According to the new law, sunbeds can only occupy up to 30% of the space on regular beaches and a maximum of 15% of the space in ecologically protected areas. In ecologically “sensitive” areas, which are regarded as “untouchable beaches”, sunbeds are banned in their entirety. Furthermore, regardless of which beach you’re on, sunbeds must be at least four meters away from the shoreline so that there is enough space for everyone to move. By keeping these regulations in mind, you’ll be able to avoid legal issues while also ensuring a pleasant vacation for you and everyone on the beach.

Off the southern tip of Florida, you can find a string of tropical islands known as the Florida Keys. What these islands lack in size, they make up for in beauty! The crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches are what vacation dreams are made of. If you’re looking for a tropical vacation that you don’t need a passport for, the Florida Keys is the perfect choice. Here are just some of the best and most beautiful beaches that the Florida Keys have to offer.

Sandspur Beach

Located in Bahia Honda State Park, Sandspur Beach is well-known as one of the prettiest beaches in the Florida Keys. Fans of this beach were heartbroken when it was closed after a hurricane in 2017. After patiently waiting for five years, Sandspur Beach was officially reopened in May 2022!

Dry Tortugas National Park

We highly recommend you visit this national park that’s only accessible by boat or seaplane. It is so uniquely stunning, with protected reefs and historical remains. This is a place you don’t want to miss.

Sombrero Beach

Sombrero Beach is another fan favorite and we understand why! With perfectly white sand and sparkling clear waters, this beach only gets better with the renovations. Newly handicap accessible, this beach also has picnic pavilions, volleyball courts, and so much more.

Marseille is one of France’s largest and most historically important cities. Situated on the Mediterranean, it provides the rest of France with lots of seafood and has held strategic significance for centuries. It also has several idyllic beaches that make it a place to visit for all the family.

Beaches

The Plage de l’Huveaune and Plage des Catalans are two of the most popular beaches near the center of Marseille. With clear blue water and golden sand, it is easy to spend a whole day at these beaches. If you want a quieter spot, the Parc National des Calanques is a 40-minute drive from Marseille and offers stunning beaches and remote coves that anyone can enjoy exploring.

Food

Marseille is one of the largest fishing cities in Europe and provides Paris with the bulk of its seafood. The cuisine in Marseille is therefore very fish-centered, and bouillabaisse is one of the most popular dishes that has originated from the city and incorporates a large variety of locally caught seafood. A vegetarian dish that all the family can enjoy is the pistou soup, which consists of Mediterranean vegetables and pasta with pistou- made of crushed garlic, olive oil, and basil.

A visit to Cyprus is incomplete if you don’t spend a few days in its lively resort city of Ayia Napa. This charming destination will draw you in with its vibrant atmosphere, but you’ll stick around for its beautiful, sun-kissed beaches – and these three are definitely worth exploring.

Makronissos Beach

Whether you’re seeking relaxation or excitement, you’ll find what you’re looking for at Makronissos Beach. Like most beaches in Ayia Napa, Makronissos will win you over with its golden sands and turquoise waters, but you’ll also be impressed by its lively atmosphere and the abundance of water sports you can enjoy during your visit.

Nissi Beach

One of Ayia Napa’s most popular spots, Nissi Beach is equally popular with locals and tourists alike – and that’s not a coincidence. It’s best known for a small islet located just off its coast, accessible by a narrow sandbar because its crystal-clear waters are so shallow that you can easily just walk there.

Konnos Beach

If you’re in the mood for a day trip a short ride away from Ayia Napa, the Cape Greco National Park is the place to be. Konnos Beach is one of its most popular attractions and it offers a more relaxing and secluded atmosphere in comparison to the previous two beaches.
