Asia is the world’s biggest continent in terms of both population and area, with 4.5 billion residents and 45 million square kilometers of space. This makes it an incredibly diverse continent, with highly-visited countries such as Japan and Thailand as well as other lesser-known gems.

These are the least-visited countries on the continent of Asia, but they have plenty to discover. Why not plan a trip to one of these destinations?

Turkmenistan

It’s hard to get to Turkmenistan, whose government makes it quite difficult to get a visa to visit. However, if you are lucky enough to be admitted into the country, you will find a modern capital city, Ashgabat, full of white marble architecture, as well as one of the strangest natural monuments on Earth, the Door to Hell.

Timor-Leste

East Timor is one of the world’s newest countries, having gained its independence from Indonesia in 2002. It isn’t commonly visited by outsiders, but those who are lucky enough to go will find beautiful white sand beaches surrounded by coral reefs as well as a bustling capital city of Dili which conserves its Portuguese colonial influence.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a massively-populated country, with nearly 165 million residents, but is often avoided by tourists due to its poverty and dangerous reputation. However, with the right guide and the right knowledge, you can find fantastic things to see in Bangladesh such as the Sundarbans, a protected mangrove forest that is home to the Bengal tiger.
