The island of Madagascar off the coast of southeastern Africa is one of the most fascinating places on the planet. This piece of land in the Indian Ocean, which is the fourth-largest island on Earth, is woven with a rich tapestry of natural and cultural wealth.

One stop that is an absolute must on any trip to Madagascar is the breathtaking Avenue of the Baobabs, an unforgettable dirt road located in the west of the country between the towns of Morondava and Belon’i Tsiribihina.

This road is located within the boundaries of the Kirindy Mitea National Park, making it protected land that cannot be destroyed. It is famous for the towering baobab trees, one of the most important bits of native flora on the island of Madagascar, that line either side of the road.

These trees, which are endemic to the island, have been found by scientists to be nearly 3,000 years old. They tower approximately 100 feet above the small dirt road in a line on each side of the road for a stretch that lasts for about a kilometer, showing off a breathtaking example of these mighty trees.

Needless to say, the Avenue of the Baobabs is a must-see on any road trip in Madagascar. Not only will you see this amazing sight, but you will also have a chance to connect with the natural wonders of this unique island.

Madagascar, the fourth-largest island in the world, is an undeniable heaven for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The island has been blessed with thousands of exotic species of flora and fauna, but it’s especially famous for its pepper, vanilla and a large naughty population of lemurs.

Avenue of the Baobabs

The Baobab trees are massive centuries-old trees locally known as Renala which means ‘‘Queens of the forest‘’. The view of these trees, especially during sunset, is simply remarkable.

Nosy Be Island

Nosy Be is a diver’s paradise and one of the rare places where you can swim along with the whale sharks, which undoubtedly is a very special experience!

Tsingy National Park

This fascinating alien landscape with impressive sights should not be missed. A mighty forest made up of stones, Tsingy National Park needs to be seen to be believed. Tsingy can be roughly translated into “where one can only walk on tiptoe”.

Île Sainte-Marie

Île Sainte-Marie is a popular tourist destination with exquisite sandy beaches and beautiful nature. Also, you can go whale watching when the gentle giants come together in the warm waters to mate and give births before returning to Antarctica.

Escape to this lush island and don’t forget your camera!
