It has been almost 55 years since the death of Martin Luther King Jr., but the legacy of the civil rights activist remains strong. Each year, his birthday is commemorated with a national holiday on the third Monday in January, and this year it will fall on what would have been his 94th birthday. This year will also see the King family host a tour to celebrate the icon.

“We invite you to spend the weekend traversing the landmarks that memorialize MLK’s vision, through a unique, three day, Washington D.C. tour, hosted by MLK’s legacy, his son, Martin Luther King III, his wife Andrea and their daughter Yolanda,” reads the description for the Continuing the Dream tour.

Held from February 17 to 20, the experience will find guests visiting significant landmarks like the MLK Memorial and National Mall where the famous acclaimed “I have a dream” speech was given, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Cathedral, and the MLK Library, among others.

The final evening of the inaugural tour will include a special farewell dinner hosted by the King family. Accommodation will be provided at selected hotels, with prices starting at $1,899 per person for a double occupancy room.

The owner of a fascinating history that dates back to the times of Native Americans, passes through a period of the Spanish Empire and ends up as a part of the United States, Texas is perhaps the most historically rich state in the United States. If you are a history buff, definitely add these three Texas landmarks to your travel itinerary the next time you head to the Lone Star State.

The Alamo

San Antonio is the home of Texas’s most famous historical site, the Alamo. A Spanish mission and fortress dating back to the 18th century, this structure was the host to one of the most pivotal battles in Texas’s fight to secede from Mexico in 1836, and can now be visited.

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

One of Texas’s darkest memories was the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22nd, 1963 in Dallas. Lee Harvey Oswald took aim at the president from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository, which has now been transformed into a memorial space and a museum about the infamous event.

San Jacinto Battleground

Located near Houston on Texas’s Gulf Coast is the San Jacinto Battleground, another key site in the Texas Revolution. In April 1836, the decisive battle that led to Texas gaining its independence from Mexico was held here. It is now a National Historic Monument.

Not many places in the U.S., or in the world, are packed with culture, history, and modern legends, all in a driving distance from each other like New Mexico. Here are a few things you don’t want to miss in the Sunshine State.

Cowboys

New Mexico isn’t lacking cowboy stories, but one of them even has his very own museum. At the Billy The Kid Museum at Fort Sumner you will learn about Billy The Kid, his mischief, and his life story until he was shot dead at Fort Sumner at the age of 21.

Aliens

Roswell, New Mexico is world-famous for its 1940s UFO sightings and has become a great place to visit for anyone interested in aliens. Do some research about what was seen and where and go visit the sites of a real conspiracy theory. For fans of the fictional TV show, there are a couple of diners in town that will be happy to take you photo sitting in one of their booths!

Atomic History

New Mexico is home to the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History. While the indoor museum exhibits, teaching the American story of nuclear development, are now closed to visitors, the Heritage Park is open for visitors who want to see historic aircrafts such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon and the B-47 Stratojet. You can also visit the replica of the Trinity Tower that held the testing of the first atomic bomb in 1945.
