Summer is the best time of year to visit theme parks and the UK has some amazing ones that you have to visit. There’s something for everyone from thrill-seekers to those visiting with their families. Here are the three best theme parks in the UK.

Alton Towers

Staffordshire’s Alton Towers is one of the most popular attractions in the UK for adrenaline junkies. Some of the best rollercoasters are the Nemesis, Rita, Oblivion, and Galactica. The newest ride is the Wicker Man, which is the first wooden rollercoaster to be built in the UK in the past 20 years.

Thorpe Park

This Surrey theme park has some of the fastest rides in Europe, making it ideal for those who aren’t afraid of heights. The best rides are Saw: The Ride, Stealth, and The Swarm. For indoor thrills, check out Derren Brown’s Ghost Train and The Walking Dead. If you aren’t afraid to get a bit wet, don’t miss the Tidal Wave.

Landmark ForestAdventure Park

Cambridge’s Landmark Forest Adventure Park may not have huge rollercoasters, but your kids will love this family-friendly park. Highlights include the Runaway Timber Train, Otter, Falcon, Wildcat, and Wild Water Coaster.

Alton Towers is one of the most popular theme parks in Europe and it definitely stands among the best in the UK. Although Alton Towers focuses on catering for families, it also offers some pretty impressive thrill rides. Here is every coaster ranked from worst to best.

8. Spinball Whizzer

Spinball Whizzer is the most family-friendly coaster on the list. The coaster cart spins round and takes several dips and turns. If you’re looking for thrills, however, it doesn’t quite pack the same punch as the rest of the coasters in the park.

7. Galactica

Galactica is one of the newer rides in the park. It was designed to feature virtual reality headsets, but these were recently scrapped. Since then, Galactica has been more of a snorefest than a thrillfest.

6. Nemesis

Nemesis one of the oldest coasters in the park. Still, it pulls in hundreds of park visitors, all queuing to ride the park’s only suspension coaster.

5. Th13teen

Th13teen is mostly an average coaster that takes you speeding through the forest. One exciting twists warrants riding the coaster again and again.

4. Rita: Queen of Speed

“Rita” is the park’s only launch coaster. It has no loops or corkscrews, but the launch start will have you clutching at your seat every time.

3. Oblivion

Oblivion is a dive coaster that holds you above a huge hole before you plunging you headfirst down a vertical slope. The trill is top class, but the queues are sometimes a little long for a ride that is over in a few seconds.

2. Wicker Man

Wicker Man is one of the greatest wooden roller coasters in the world. It reaches speeds of 70 km/h and 2,608.3 ft in length. Unlike traditional wooden coasters, the ride is incredibly smooth.

1. The Smiler

The Smiler is the world’s first Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster. It holds the world record for the most inversions, boasting 14 in total. It’s easily the best ride in the park and is a competitor for the best ride in the whole of the UK.

The UK’s biggest theme park has launched a huge new feature for 2019 – the “Alton Towers Dungeon.”

The dungeon will feature live actors, exciting technology and interactive shows. It also includes a boat ride and the whole experience will last 45 minutes.

To experience the new feature, you will have to add an extra £5 ($7) fee to your ticket. The attraction is not recommended for children under 10 but is design to be thrilling and fun for family audiences.

A spokesman for Alton Towers said: “New for 2019, the Alton Towers Dungeon is a hilariously hideous journey through Staffordshire’s darkest history.

“Guests will be screaming with laughter whilst being sentenced by the Bishop of Stafford, surviving the plague, enduring the torturer and also making a stop at the Witch of Burslem’s haunted cottage.

“The Alton Towers Dungeon will draw on the best of the Dungeons’ brand and apply Alton Towers’ expertise in family entertainment to bring to life some of the spookiest tales from the local area.”

The attraction will be open when the park opens its doors for 2019 on March 23.
