]]>Katmai National Park and Preserve is an American national park located in the south of Alaska. An interesting fact about its location is that you cannot get to Katmai Park by road. To visit the park you will need to go by boat or light plane.
Not sure you’re that interested in Katmai’s biggest attraction, the bears? The park has web cameras set up that allow you to follow the wildlife at a few locations around the park, like Brooks Falls where they fish for salmon, and the Lower River where the mothers and cubs hang out in the summer.
The park is actually named after one of its active volcanoes, Mount Katmai. In 1912 there was a significant eruption that gave the valley formed near the mountain the name “Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes.” The park has very few maintained trails but many go backcountry hiking, as long as you’re properly prepared, this can be a trip of a lifetime.
