They visited Machu Picchu in Peru, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Colosseum in Italy, the Taj Mahal in India, The Lost City of Petra in Jordan and the Great Wall in China, all in 13 days. 

“Everyone has that unique opportunity to live any life they want to live,” Sullivan said. Traveling leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.

What to Do

Everyone knows about the famous pyramids in Giza, as well as the Sphinx, but what people don’t realize is that they’re only a short drive away from Cairo! In just about 30 minutes, you can go from the urban sprawl some of the most impressive moments in the world. If you’re worried about crowds, you can also go to see the pyramids at night which is a whole nother experience in and of itself. So check off one of the 7 wonders of the world during your trip!

The Egyptian Museum is another must-see place in Cairo. This museum has over 12,000 pieces of Egyptian antiquities, including some mummies belonging to Egyptian royalty. It is really amazing to see the mummies and imagine what life must have been like at that time.

Mosque of Amr Ibn Al-As was the first mosque to be built on the continent of Africa in 641-642 AD, so it is definitely worth a visit. Of course, the original structure is not standing today, but to know that the same land has been used for more than 12 centuries is pretty spectacular.

The Khan Al-Khalili Bazaar is the oldest open-air market in all of the Middle East, so you can’t miss it. This is a great market to pick up gifts for friends at home, especially for those who love to cook since there is an array of spices. However, you have to be aware that during the weekends it gets incredibly crowded, so just keep that in mind. Also, within the market are some cafes where you can enjoy traditional Arabic drinks.

Since Cairo is located right on the Nile river, take advantage of it by going on a felucca, or small sailboat, ride! This is a great way to relax after a long day of touring and allows you to see the city in a whole new light.

Egyptian food can be a bit heavy at times, but there are some dishes that you absolutely need to try while you’re in Cairo. The most famous dish in the city is called koshary, and is a combination of many pulses like lentils and chickpeas, with a tomato sauce as well as rice and macaroni. This poor man’s meal will definitely fill you up, so be sure to have an appetite before you try it!

Ful mudamas is another Egyptian staple street food that is normally eaten for breakfast. It is a dish made from fava beans and is also a vegan dish! Fava beans are very popular in Egyptian cuisine so it’s essential to try it.
