Incan citadel of Machu Picchu in Peru is one of the most fascinating places in the world. Its historical importance, remarkable architecture, and stunning scenery make it a bucket list entry for every serious traveler. However, if you want to have the best time visiting Machu Picchu, there are some tips you should follow.

Visit with a Tour Operator

Visiting Machu Picchu with a tour operator might be slightly pricier but it will do wonders for your experience. You won’t have to go through the trouble of getting the tickets that sold out quickly, arranging transportation, and getting a local guide. Additionally, tour operators will obtain an official permit for you, which is now a requirement for anyone who wants to visit Machu Picchu.

Be Ready for Altitude Sickness

Machu Picchu is located at an altitude of 7,900 feet, which might not sound too worrying but can still pose problems for many travelers. If you don’t want to have your trip spoiled by nausea or headaches, get yourself ready for altitude sickness. You can do this by spending a few nights at one of the villages with moderate elevation, taking medicine, or opting for the local remedy of coca leaves tea.

Don’t Go Early in the Morning

Early birds might catch the worm, but early visitors to Machu Picchu are known not to have the best experience. The weather can be cloudy and cold in the morning with a high chance of fog or rain. Instead, go in the afternoon, when there is still enough sunlight but the crowds start to disperse.

Bring the Essentials and Only the Essentials

Make sure to bring the essentials with including your passport, water, some snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray, because you’ll need them all. Also, make sure not to carry a large backpack, as you will not be allowed to take it inside.

Peru’s splendid capital of Lima is home to countless amazing attractions, from historic cathedrals to amazing museums, but its parks are also top of the line. Parque de la Reserva is one of the very best, and you shouldn’t miss it for the world because it’s home to one of the city’s most show-stopping attractions: the Magic Water Circuit.

The Magic Water Circuit consists of 13 unique fountains, and it has become one of Lima’s top attractions since opening its doors in 2007. It also holds the Guinness World Record for being the world’s largest fountain complex located in a public park, and you’ll have the time of your life exploring its fountains.

The Magic Fountain is definitely its crown jewel, and it features eight small Sevillian fountains and a majestic geyser that can reach a height of over 80 meters. Tunnel of Surprises is also pretty popular, and it will rock your world with its picture-perfect 35-meter-long water tunnel.

One thing that many fountains at the Magic Water Circuit share is their interactive nature. The rainbow fountain comes with seven parallel rows of water jets shooting streams of different colors, while the Fantasy fountain hosts regularly scheduled laser and picture shows synchronized to music.

The Magic Water Circuit fountains are open from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m., Monday through Sunday, and the entrance fee is set at 5 Peruvian soles (around $1.5).

Spectacular churches and cathedrals are scattered all around Colombia, and its capital city is home to some of the very best. If you’re in the mood to explore the rich historical and architectural heritage of this South American country while in Bogotá, here are three churches worth checking out.

Salt Cathedral

Salt flats are one of South America’s biggest natural marvels, but they’re not the only salt-based attraction you’ll find on this continent. Colombia is home to its own Salt Cathedral, carved in an old salt mine 200 meters underground in the small town of Zipaquirá near Bogotá.

Primatial Cathedral of Bogotá

One of the timeless symbols of Bogotá, Primatial Cathedral is located in the heart of the iconic Plaza de Bolívar. Built in a neoclassical style, this cathedral opened its doors in 1823 and later became a national monument of Colombia due to its historical, architectural, and cultural significance.

The National Shrine of Our Lady of Carmen

One of Bogotá’s marvels of modern architecture, the National Shrine of Our Lady of Carmen was designed by Giovanni Buscaglione during the early 20th century. It was built in the Florentine Gothic Style, and it became a true sensation thanks to its striped red-and-white façade.

Most people start their journey through Bolivia from its capital La Paz, and you can find many stunning natural wonders in its close proximity. If you’re in the mood for a day trip that you’ll never forget, here are three stunning attractions that will take your breath away.

Moon Valley

Moon Valley aka Valle de la Luna is one of Bolivia’s most accessible natural marvels because it’s located just 10 kilometers from La Paz. Its show-stopping rock formations and tall spires were created by the erosion of mountains, and they’ll make you feel like you’ve stepped on the surface of the Moon.

Chacaltaya

La Paz is surrounded by many stunning mountain peaks, and Chacaltaya is one of the most accessible since it’s located 30 kilometers away from the city. The Chacaltaya glacier and a ski resort were once located on its premises, but it’s now mostly known as a hiking attraction with scenic views.

Illimani

The highest mountain in the Cordillera Real, Illimani is heaven on earth for hikers and climbers visiting Bolivia. You can see it in the distance before even leaving La Paz, but you should consider heading there if you’re in the mood for a grand adventure since it’s home to Bolivia’s second-highest peak.
